Ever wanted to retrieve lost items off a boat or jetty?

Or do you want to learn how to tie effective knots, or how to use a lift bag for heavy objects?

If so – the Search and Recovery Specialty is for you!

What will I do?

During the Search and Recovery Specialty you will develop skills to increase your success in finding and retrieving lost items. You will learn different swimming search patterns using your compass and natural navigation, and how to locate large and small objects using various search patterns after planning a search operation. You will also learn how to use a lift bag for large or heavy objects, as well as other recovery methods. The skills you learn as part of the Search and Recovery Specialty are transferable and useful for a range of situations – not just diving!

How long will it take?

If you completed a search and recovery dive as part of your Advanced Adventure Diver Course: you will need to complete three S&R dives. If you didn’t complete a search and recovery dive as part of your Advanced Adventure Diver Course: you will need to complete four S&R dives.

Prerequisites

You must be a certified Open Water (or Junior Open Water) diver and 12 years of age or above to complete this course.

Medical Requirements:

You will be asked to complete the Medical Questionnaire when enrolling in any scuba diving course with Dolphin Scuba. This questionnaire is designed to identify any health issues that could cause complications while diving. If you answer ‘no’ to all the questions you won’t need to do any more. If you have any answers ‘yes’ you will need to see a doctor for a Recreational Diving Medical before starting your course.

How much does it cost?

Cost of $169 includes material and certification. Besides your basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and underwater slate, which can be purchased in store.

Where can I go from here?

The Search and Recovery Specialty counts toward the Master Diver Rating – the highest recreational certification offered. The Master Diver Rating is earned through significant experience and scuba training, with fewer than two percent of divers achieving this level of recreational certification! Through completion of the Search and Recovery Specialty you could be one step closer to joining this elite group of divers.
