Would you like to fine-tune your compass skills and become a more confident navigator underwater? If so, the Navigation Specialty is just for you!

What will I learn?

This course will introduce you to a range of navigation skills, and further develop skills you may already be familiar with if you have completed the Advanced Adventure Diver course. Regardless of your previous experience with underwater navigation, your Navigation Specialty will build upon basic skills to complete more complicated navigation patterns and increase your confidence in navigating underwater.

You will learn different methods to estimate distance, how to use your compass more accurately, types of natural clues that can be helpful for underwater navigation, and how to use your compass to navigate making at least 5 turns. Your Navigation Specialty dives will be completed at one of our local dive sites, such as the Rockingham Wreck Trail or one of many sites in the Swan River (depending on weather conditions).

How long will it take?

You will need to complete 2 dives as part of your Navigation Specialty, which can be completed over one day.

What is the cost?

The cost of $225 includes online eLearning material and certification. Besides your basic scuba equipment, you will also need a compass and slate, which can be purchased in store.

Prerequisites

You must be Open Water certified or equivalent before starting this course.

You will be asked to complete the Medical Questionnaire when enrolling in any scuba diving course with Dolphin Scuba. This questionnaire is designed to identify any health issues that could cause complications while diving. If you answer ‘no’ to all the questions you won’t need to do any more. If you have any answers ‘yes’ you will need to see a doctor for a Recreational Diving Medical before starting your course.

Where can I go from here?

The Navigation Specialty counts toward the Master Diver Rating – the highest recreational certification offered. The Master Diver Rating is earned through significant experience and scuba training, with fewer than two percent of divers achieving this level of recreational certification! Through completion of the Navigation Specialty you could be one step closer to joining this elite group of divers.
