If you are planning on scuba diving this Summer, there are a few things you should consider before heading out on a dive trip. Whether its planning for a dive at one of Perth’s top dive locations, or getting ready to go on a dive holiday, each dive should be prepared for carefully. To make things easier, we have devised a quick Summer scuba diving checklist to make sure you are fully equipped before getting into the water.
Summer Scuba Dive Gear
Warmer water conditions for scuba diving means your wetsuit can be smaller, and lightweight freeing up some much needed luggage space. Be sure to check the water conditions before heading out on a dive to check you won’t require any additional exposure protection. In terms of equipment, you will need your basic scuba dive gear, BCD, regulator, and gauges will depend on whether you are diving around Perth or travelling (due to its weight). When preparing for a dive holiday, it is up to the diver’s preference and budget as to whether you opt to rent or buy your gear, be sure to check your airline’s luggage restrictions for sports equipment allocations.
Health and Hygiene
Scuba diving in Perth during Summer means warm sunny days so don’t forget to pack sun protection. Sunscreen and lip balm are a must to make sure your skin is protected against UV in the water. If you are planning on travelling to a dive holiday destination, we suggest to pack a first aid kit, motion sickness pills, anti-histamines, copies of your travel insurance, and research any vaccinations you require beforehand.
Quick dry clothing options
Whilst everything dries at a faster rate in the warmer weather, packing light and quick dry clothing options for before and after dives will make things easier. If you are planning an overseas scuba dive trip, lightweight clothing will help reduce luggage weight; however, always check the weather forecast for any unexpected changes before heading out on a dive.
Underwater photography equipment
If you want to document your underwater adventures, make sure you have your waterproof camera equipment sorted beforehand. Just like you check your scuba dive gear before getting in the water, you should also do a check of your recording equipment’s battery, seals, and memory cards. This will prevent getting to the dive location and realising you only have 10 minutes of battery remaining or have forgotten to put the memory card back in the camera.
